Portuguese Wine Exports Experience Ongoing Growth

More China Wine Market News…

cwsa-newsA recent study has provided big news for Portuguese wine producers. In 2015, Portuguese wine exports reached $844, which was not only a 2% increase from the year before, but a 25% increase since 2009– and these numbers are expected to continue to grow. This rapid growth is largely attributed to the ongoing Chinese wine boom. China is now Portugal’s fifth largest wine market, and according to Filipa Anunciacao, Manager at ViniPortugal, “There is growing interest in the market, which as well as being large has a population that is gaining buying power.” Smart Portuguese winemakers are long seizing this opportunity by participating at CWSA, such as DFJ Vinhos, Casa Santos Lima, and Quinta do Conde. Their CWSA Medal Stickers along with the growing interest in Portuguese wines in China is driving a high level of recognition throughout the region and beyond, and following CWSA wins these wineries enjoyed coverage in publications such as the Drinks Business, the Irrigator,  and the Portugal Wine Guide, the editor of which said, “We have immense respect and admiration for the growing importance of the CWSA, and are fully aware that CWSA has become a reference for the Chinese market and also the relevance for Portuguese wines.
