The recent ‘China Wine Awards’ saw high profile wine VIPs from all over the world descend on Hong Kong’s Mira Hotel to cast their verdict on over 1,200 specially flown in bottles. Testament to the burgeoning importance of Chinese buyers, the atmosphere was described as ”quite serious” by organiser (and former super model Kelly England. No obsequious clinking of glasses or expressive allusions to the ”underlaying scent of elderberries” here, Chinese wine is now too big a business. A seal of approval from the CWA could mean a sky rocketing profit margin.
